CellQual's collection of crowdsourced data on a massive scale depends on the participation of millions of users and their devices.

To achieve this massive distribution scale, CellQual partners with popular mobile applications, such as mobile games, who already have a large number of installs and users. These partners embed CellQual's software into their applications to collect data in return for payments by CellQual. CellQual has over 1,500 mobile application partnerships which are all running the CQ-SDK and collecting data from a large number of devices globally.

  1. A massive data set
    Due to the way that the data is collected (in the background of popular end-user mobile applications) CellQual collects a significant number of records each day. In most countries where CellQual publishes reports, there are over 100,000 unique devices providing over 1 million records every day. This large data set enables high-resolution and detailed analysis of different geographies, operators, devices, etc.

  2. Statistically significant data, every day
    Due to the massive scale of the distribution and consistency of data volumes reported back to CellQual's servers, the dataset and associated insights collected in a 24-hour period can be used to gather up-to-date insights in mobile usage and performance

  3. End-user perspective - without bias
    CellQual's software runs on end-user devices and tests the network and connection quality in the background while a user undertakes typical activities like playing a game. There is no need for a user to manually initialize a network test, which removes the bias associated with bandwidth speed testing applications where a user will typically only test a very good or very bad connection.

  4. Data from all operators and manufacturers
    CellQual's software runs on popular mobile applications for iOS and Android and which are typically used on users of all service providers. This allows data to be collected from all operators and major device types without bias. This enables competitive benchmarking of operators and device manufacturers.
